ITI Mentor Classifications:
Scientific Mentor: Principal investigator affiliated with the ITI at the University of Washington who is the primary mentor of the postdoctoral fellow. Responsibilities include discussing the primary research goals of the fellow, assessing project progress on a monthly basis, providing feedback on presentations, providing access to reagents and core facilities, and facilitating collaboration with the Collaborating mentor. The Scientific mentor is financially responsible for the fellow.
Collaborating Mentor: Principal investigator or scientist at a local biotechnology company affiliated with the ITI at the University of Washington. Responsibilities include discussing fellows’ research goals, assessing project progress at least every 3 months, providing feedback during fellow presentations, and providing the necessary resources for the collaboration to succeed.
Networking Mentor: Principal investigator, scientist at a local biotechnology/pharmaceutical company, or UW-alumni affiliated with the ITI at the University of Washington. Responsibilities include networking guidance or opportunities, job application feedback, or ‘coffee chats’ to discuss career progression during the second year of fellows’ funding.
